
Kilkenny Arts Festival 2019 dates: 8th – 18th August 2019
This has grown to be one of the best arts festivals in Ireland with one of the widest ranges of events and genres to be found anywhere in the country.
Kilkenny city, with its churches, theatre, castles, gardens and historic medieval streets, is an ideal setting for staging a diverse array of arts events. Although it was originally based around classical music performance it has grown into an eclectic mix of classical and modern, old and new, historical and contemporary with something for everybody.
Throughout the 10 days of the festival visitors can experience street theatre, outdoor concerts, drama, poetry, opera, classical music, traditional Irishmusic, talks, readings, lectures, exhibitions workshops and more
The Marble City Sessions are musical collaborations featuring artists from different genres directed by traditional musician Martin Hayes from County Clare.
The Festival’s orchestra-in-residence is the Kilkenny city which will be joined by many outstanding Irish and international musicians.
Among this year’s classical performers are Alexander Gavryluk (piano), Nathalie Stutzmann, Thomas Zehetmair (conductor), Chamber Choir Ireland, Malcolm Proud.
Martin Hayes Quartet, Maighread & Triona Ni Dhomhnaill, Harriet Tubman Trio, Cathal Coughlan are among the many other musicians.
