The longest bridge in Ireland, connecting County Kilkenny to County Wexford over the River Barrow has been officially opened.
This is part of an upgrade N25 New Ross bypass.
The bridge has been named The Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Bridge in honour of John F. Kennedy’s mother who came from the area.
Te bridge was opened by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and Rose Katherine Kennedy Townsend who is a grand-niece of President Kennedy
The bridge measures 887m which is by far the longest in the country and almost four times longer than the River Suir Bridge which was previously the longest at 230m.
The work on the bridge and N25 upgrade was done by BAM Civil.
As well as making local traffic more efficient, the bridge is expected to reduce the driving time from Cork to Rosslare by about 30 minutes.
